Hello, I am Kayla Conanan and this is my webpage portfolio for Asian American Studies 115. I am a freshman at California State University, Northridge and I'm majoring in Chemistry. At the beginning of the semester, I had a difficult time transitioning into college writing. In high school, I would do well in English class and I would usually receive high marks on my papers, but when I started at CSUN I knew the writing would be different. As a result, it was hard for me to write text-based arguments since most of the papers I had previously written were literary-analyses. I felt like I was starting anew. For instance, when I received my introduction for progression one back I was definitely confused on what I was supposed to be writing. Though, once I revised it and asked Professor Gamboa-Wong for help, I felt assured that I was going in the right direction. In addition, Professor Gamboa-Wong's exercises for each progression have helped me brainstorm ideas and gather evidence for my essay. Most of the exercises helped give me knew insight on what I can write about and how to keep the ongoing conversation in my writing. This portfolio reflects the journey I have gone through the past sixteen weeks and how I have grown as a writer. Even though I make mistakes in my writing, I know this class has taught me how to adjust to college writing. In conclusion, I believe this class helped me not only transition, but also prepared me for the courses I will take in the future.
